Colour photography is hard. Whenever I think I might have a handle on seeing and interpreting things through a lens, I put a roll of colour film in my camera and realize how completely lost I still am in so many ways. The feeling doesn’t really bother me, though: never mastering something means I'll continue to learn in that field until the very end. This is strangely comforting.
Here’s a portrait of where I am (was) right now (then), in February 2011 (February 2011). Some combination of my Pen, its mildly radioactive lens, my current favourite colour film, Toronto’s natural winter palette, and the current state of my seeing results in a fetish with these two colours: Pantone 124 & Pantone 180 .
A roll of about sixty shots shows a single-minded focus on the interaction between these colours (and their close neighbours), and it was totally unintentional. I’m a bit fascinated by that. These are all from the same roll.
